Art Museum

An art museum is place where various works of art, such as sculptures or painting are displayed and exhibited. There are numerous galleries over the world it most major cities will have a famous art museum, for example the Louvre in Paris or the Tate Modern in London, both of these galleries are extremely popular with tourists, particularly the Louvre as this is where the Mona Lisa is exhibited.

The architecture of an art museum, particularly a modern art museum is often considered to be a work of art as much as the contents of the art museum are. The Guggenheim art museum in Spain is an example of an art museum which is famed for it’s elaborated an unusual architecture. There are various types of art museum and some will specialise in exhibiting a specific type of art, for example the aforementioned Tate Modern in London is an art museum that exclusively exhibits contemporary works of modern art. It is also widely recognised as it was formerly a power station before being converted into an art museum.

An art museum is often considered to be a educational place to visit and it is not unusual to see large parties of school children or art students being escorted through an art museum by a tour guide.
